A Little Grave
By I.M. Ulysses.
A little grave
In a far off field
A place of rest
For a life now sealed
Returned to the earth
From which he rose
Despite my desire
For a different course
He'd passed away
In quiet and peace
As he lay in bed
And found release
Such is the way
Of all mankind
Since Adam's fall
From God's design
Left but a shell
His spirit a captive
Inside of a body
At one time, attractive
For 91 years
He walked this earth
Leaving his mark
And showing his worth
Mistakes he had made
But also much good
Building a life
As he felt he should
Strong to the end
He made a good fight
Clinging to life
Throughout his last night
And now, though, he's gone
His spirit's alive
Within us, his children
Who continue to strive
We'll carry on
And do our best
Thanking The Lord
For being so blessed
Sadness and joy
Are mingled this day
As we say goodbye
From this little grave.
